Relax. A meal at the Colonial Cottage Inn is cozy and comfortable. Turn in from the busy noise of Dixie Highway, walk through the welcoming blue door, and slow down. A friendly server says hello, and seats you at a comfortable table or a roomy booth. The low lighting, quiet ambiance, and earth tones of the massive stone fireplace will warm you no matter what the season.
The menu offers a wide array of delicious southern style meals like Fried Chicken, Country Style Ham and Country Fried Steak, all for around $10. Breakfast is served all day, and offers a variety of hearty egg and bacon, ham, or sausage meals. Locals also enjoy the goetta here, that German favorite of sausage and oats.
For lunch, choose from a variety of sandwiches, including the Kentucky Hot Brown and one of the restaurants specialties, the French dip, shaved roast beef on fresh ciabatta bread served with a tasty bowl of au jus for dipping.
And save room for dessert. The restaurant is known for their pies, especially their cream pies. Coconut, Chocolate, Lemon, Banana, Butterscotch & Sugar Free Coconut are made daily from scratch and priced at $2.99 a slice.
The reasonable prices at the Colonial Cottage Inn reflect the restaurant’s origins. During the depression in the 1930s, Clara Rich started a restaurant with home cooked meals at affordable prices. She served good food for the area’s appreciative tobacco warehouse workers and local farmers. The menu quotes Clara as saying “People need a place they can feel at home,” and the restaurant has stayed true to her ideals. Now family owned and operated by Matt and Noelle Grimes and their children, the Colonial Cottage Inn continues serve traditional comfort food in a place customers feel at home.
HelloCincinnati Tip: The parking lot always looks packed from Dixie Highway, but there's usually plenty of parking behind the restaurant.
